Question:

Can a worn out rechargeable battery be resurrected using a volt meter?

Someone on eBay is selling information on how to renew Ni Cad and other rechargeable batteries such as those used in power drills. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320281146057.

Do you think there is any chance that this person's method might work? Or is it a scam?

  1. No.  A volt meter can only measure the output of the battery.  It will not modify, resurect or change the battery in any way.  You can use a volt meter to check a battery, but not to make any change in a battery in any way.....

  2. I have found that letting a NICd rest a couple of months and then recharging it seems to make it useful again, not as good as new but usable.
