Question:

Can a write-off be insured before its repaired?

Hi,

My car was written off this week. It's still v much driveable, and I will get it repaired.

Problem is, my insurance company have cancelled the policy (as you'd expect). But this means I cannot take the car anywhere to get it repaired, and its stuck on my driveway!

Is there a way around this? Can I temporarily insure it in some way (even for a day etc)? Is towing it the only option?

  1. no you can not insure the vehicle untill it has been put through a mot test to prove the car is road worthy

  2. it's been written off. it's going to cost more to fix it (in new parts) then the car is worth. i suggest phoning them up and telling them you want to drop the claim and get your cover back since you are going to repair the car yourself,  i would get second hand parts from a scrap yard. no doubt that there is more written off cars there like yours with good parts that you can use!

  3. If your dad is a mechanic, doesn't he have a mate with a tow truck or flat bed?  That would solve the problem.

Either that or try and find some 3rd party insurance.

  4. If it's been written off it is highly unlikely to be "v much driveable" - there is a reason it has been written off. Either the chassis is twisted or the repairs would cost more than the car is worth. What category write off is it? Most insurance companies won't touch a written-off car with a bargepole when it comes to insuring vehicles! My advice to you is use your write-off payment to buy a new car!

Why have you still got the car if it's been written off? The car should be taken off you otherwise you have a payment from the insurance and a car to weigh in for scrap!

  5. yes you can re insure.

    I have in the past.

I was restricted to third party cover
