I have Toyota Avensis GLS 1998 with mileage 110K. I got my car serviced about three month ago from Kwik-Fit. After that i noticed that if i start my car after three four days it smells like burning oil but no blue smoke. From last few weeks i can actually see the blue smoke as well for first few seconds. I am just thinking is it possible that they used the wrong grade or low quality oil which can actually passes through engine seals and causing the smell/smoke. Is there anyway to get it checked whether its the engine or wrong grade of oil.

I think 110 K is not much for Toyota engine. Any advice will be really appreciated

  1. It sounds like your valve guides are probably leaking a little oil.  If it only happens when the car has set for a day or two then the leak is probably pretty small.  Unfortunately, It looks like your car would call for a 5w30 (correct me if I'm wrong) which means that it is very unlikely they would put anything lighter than the recommended oil in your engine.  With that said make sure you use the right oil on your next change.  If the problem continues you can try some additives (lucas oil treatment is one of the few that I will personally use).  Or if you live in a warm climate just move to a 10w30 oil this should add a little more viscosity and help slow any leaks while the car is parked.  With no knowledge of how the car has been driven or maintained it is hard to judge based on mileage but I wouldn't be surprised to see an engine with 110k miles buring a little oil if it was driven hard no matter who made it.

  2. that blue smoke you see is probably valve seals dryed out and oil is leaking down on the valves.

  3. I have had oil smoke as other didn't> Try an additive and see if that helps> If not change the oil>
