A Yahoo group that I belong to is promoting the use of Paltalk as a chat client and that seems unethical to me. What is the Yahoo stand point on this issue?

  1. depends on how the ad is being used. Yahoo disabled their groups chats and many many groups are using other clients.

    read Yahoo TOS

    http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/uto...

as long as there is no money exchange I'd bet it's fine

  2. Yahoo! is a business providing a FREE on line chat facility, therefore in order for them to make money out of it they advertise on the unused space, that much I know.

In some companies, advertising space is rented out to an agencies {e.g. the back of a bus} and the space is filled by them. By me there is an advert on the back of a bus for a train service operated by the rival bus company because the space on the bus is theoretically not theirs.
