I also was told that garage sales are more beneficial during the first weekend of the month. How can I make sure people will show up? Are balloons and a sign good to have?

  1. of course huni:) Just make sure u also tell ur friends' and then they can tell their families...I'm sure you'll do good!!!Luck!

  2. All good ideas.

Need to warn you about roving bands of Mex's. I had a large group visit. The ring leader ran me deep into the garage while his compadres cleared out the front. Work in two's.

  3. YES.  I have had several very good yard sales without using the paper... some better then others.  I have found that the best thing you can do is make plenty of signs (large & bold) and post them in strategic spots... also make it as easy as possible for people to find the sale quickly and easily.  Dummy proof it.  Good luck!

  4. Yes it can. Use the free ad spaces such as bulletin boards at supermarkets. Have plenty of signs at intersecting corners. Make sure the writing (especially the address) is large enough to be read without stopping the car.

  5. yes you can have a successful garage sale with the newspaper just make sure you have good signs plastered through out the neighorhood like main intersection and stuff like that . and word of mouth is always good too. tell family so they can tell friends and so on.well i hope it helped good luck.

  6. Yes .. Balloons and signs at the end of your street and around town with your address... When making the signs make the words big so people driving can read them. Even older people cause they often have poor eye sight.

  7. No.

Advertise in the local paper. It's relatively cheap.

Buy some poster board at the local dollar store and plaster the neighbourhood with them. Include the time, day, and address of your garage sale.

    Locate them at major intersections.

    You NEED to advertise.

  8. I have had many successful garage sales without using a newspaper ad. I do believe though, that they draw more people to the sale. Make sure when you post signs that they are readable and give adequate direction to the sale. I have seen so many signs that are either too small, illegible or can't be read without stopping on the road (which is dangerous). Balloons indicate a Birthday party...not a yard sale. Just use bright colored posterboard and a bold type black marker. Good luck. BTW....Make sure to remove the signs when the sale is over.

  9. It really depends on the weather, the neighborhood, and even the culture of the community where you live.

If you are in a good location, put up lots of signs on some high-traffic thoroughfares, and have decent weather, you can do well.

The best way to know for sure is to watch other garage sales near you & see how successful they seem to be.

If you live near a "pro" at it, see if he/she will let you combine and do a multi-family.

Frist weekend of the month is probably a good idea, since many get paid on the first.

    Good luck!
