  1. Only if you leave the acetone on there for a while will it hurt the wood

  2. It is a netural acid so yea think so, try using rubbing alcohol.

  3. My wife the Chemist said yes it will.  She said try Methanol, but it probably won't work for many things.

  4. What do you mean by "hurt the wood"? It is not going to make it dissolve. Yes, it will pull off most any finish (paint or varnish) on the wood, and may bleach it a little. But if you're going to put new carpet down, so what?

  5. Acetone will bleach the wood. Better to use "Goo gone" which can be purchased at Walmart, most home stores and super markets. WD40 will also work and can be removed fairly easily.

  6. got to the grocery and buy "Goo Gone"

Beyond that? When you go to the Hardware store to buy what you need--ask the hardware man.....it's his job to know the EXACT product for removing adheisives from what ever specific surface you have. He's paid to know-and usually just waiting to be asked-and your wood surface will be spared indignities...

  7. I'd think that acetone could damage wood.  Since you are doing a major job on an expensive investment, don't try to cut corners.  Get a commercial product specifically for that purpose.

  8. yes acetone will remove any finish that is on the wood purchase some stuff called goo gone. removes any sticky stuff. walmart has it
