Can adoptions be changed after the fact?

My boyfriend went to prison for something stupid, and while he was away, the great grandparents of his daughter adopted her, and then moved away. Is there anyway to fix this? He and his daughter had an excellent relationship and I know this is killing him. What can he do?

  1. It really depends where his rights terminated by the courts? If so there really is nothing he can do. Typical both birthparents have to sign their rights away or they get them terminated.   Where is these girls mother?

  2. Yes it is very possible. Did he sign any papers? What he had did does not matter in court as long as it wasnt hurting the child. So they will through that right out. They will look for what is best for the daughter and if she is old enough and can talk and understand they will ask her if she wants to live with her fathers or grandparents. Me personally I would think that the father would be best because the parents are older and will soon be to old to take care of a child. Where is the mother is she in the picture?

  3. if he really loves her, then he shouldn't do anything. and really there isn't anything he can. He can however still be a father to her, by visiting

  4. I honestly dont know how to answer this other than to tell you.. get a d**n good lawyer. dont let him lose his baby. and like that other girl said, a man thats been a prison shouldnt be able to see her or whatver f*ck her. My husband made a mistake when he was young. people MAKE mistakes. we have a beautiful family and he is a wonderful father. Dont give up! Dont let them think he is giving up, it will only look worse. Fight for her, every daughter needs her daddy. Good luck to you.

  5. How long is he going to be away . When he gets out he needs to find her just look for her through her ss number. It's hard today for men to get their rights. My son has being fighting for his son for 2 years now and he wasn't in jail. He needs to find a lawyer and 1st if the child isn't adopted he needs to file with the register of that state and claim he is the father it will stop the adoptions but what did he sign anything because there is a case like your and the adoption was over turned. Look up your cases and find a lawyer.

  6. Nothing.  The courts terminated his rights, and frankly, no one who has been in prison should have custody of any child.

  7. This is a tough question to answer. Is the daughter being well taken cared for, do they provide for her needs? If the answer is yes to these questions then most likely a court will be on their side. However, could your boyfriend in some way get involved in his daughter's life? Meaning being able to visit her, go to school functions, family vacations, family dinners or doing other things with her. Maybe asking his grandparents if this is possible, and they see that he is truly making an effort, they will allow him to be more involved in his child's life. I wouldn't get a lawyer yet, try getting a counselor involved to workout an amicable arrangement. I hope things get better.
