  1. I suppose if it's a school that is low on or has trouble getting funds from their district. But, even if they're well off, they can still do it for upgrades or whatever they want/need.

It sounds underhanded, but some of the schools with lower allowances/budgets may have no choice.

I remember living in Houston; in elementary school (very poor neighborhood) we'd take field trips to our local Coca-Cola bottling company and Texaco (the gas station company) would send people who wold mentor us... It was so much fun and it gave us a sense of what business and the corporate world was like.

The field trips to Coca-Cola and the Texaco sponsors were long gone before elementary was over, but to this day I am loyal to Coca-Cola (I swear it tastes better, lol) and I was sad that Texaco was bought out. Just joking... but seriously... In the end, I still believe that the extra cash the school got was put to good use. I learned so many valuable lessons and the way the companies set up their programs, it was really like we had teachers that taught us about what the world could be like for us if we stuck with our educations.

These days, kids are forced to learn academics earlier and earlier and I feel there is lack of focus in more social aspects. Also, I think advertising is more perverted in nature these days. It's more focused on marketing and selling that it was back then: encouraging education so we could be leaders (and future business people, etc.) and maybe someday succeed in whatever endeavours we pursued; much like the people we met on these trips/ lessons. Plus, the old ways focused on what you can become and create vs. today, where the focus is more on what you can have  and enjoy just by spending money.

Maybe not the most convincing thoughts... but, I just wish the older programs were still around so my son can benefit like I did :-)
