Can airlines raise the fee on flights that you have already paid for?

I heard a rumor that because gas is so outrageously $$$, that when people buy tickets to fly, the airlines have the right to increase the fare (that someone has already confirmed and paid for on their Visa!) say if gas creeps way up again at the last minute, is this really true? Creepy!

  1. No - if you have already purchades and paid for your tickets they cannot raise the price

  2. That's not true, once the ticket is paid for in full the charges would not be added to fare/ticket.  If you just have a reservation or booking at your travel agency on hold that fare is subject to change cause it's only on hold.

  3. they can but they wont charge the new fee to you if u already bought them.

  4. they will raise their prices all the time on flights but ocne you've purchased your ticket you won't pay the new price, same goes for if they discount it, they won't give you back the difference.

but remember, there are some security fees that some airports charge when you check in so make sure you have about $20 in cash on you in case you run into this.  most tack it onto your ticket price now, but some airlines still charge at the airport.

    Have fun!

  5. No way, thats impossible.

  6. They  can't charge you more if your ticket is already paid and you hold a confirmed ticket.  They CAN change the fare for tickets that have not yet been sold.
