Question:

Can alcohol really cause one to see pink elephants?

We've all seen the cartoons where the stereotypical drunk stumbles along the side of the street talking to his hallucinations of pink elephants. I know well enough that typical intoxication won't have you seeing pink elephants, but does this stereotype in cartoons hold accuracy at any level?

  1. so i've heard my grandfather and my mother claim it to be true who knows

    korkie

  2. No and what you often imagine, read, and watch is what you will see if the alcohol affects your memory, this is the reason why. You'll know if a person is good or bad when he or she gets drank real expressions of the true attitude is often revealed afterwards.

  3. I've never seen pink elephants before... although being drunk has caused me to hiccup, which is another cartoon stereotype.

  4. Not really. If you want to hallucinate you have to take more psyco-active drugs such as l.s.d. but this is illegal so you can't.

  5. I saw blue camels once...

  6. Alcohol does not make you hallucinate. Might blur your vision, but you are definitely never going to see something that doesn't exist.

If you get trashed and then fall asleep its possible to dream about them I'm sure!

  7. Nah - unless you're totally passed out and a complete mess....

  8. Technically it is called  "delirium trenums" But by drunks they are  called "Pink Elephants" but yes they are said to be really "Pink" according to the  drunkards conception

  9. coz of impaired vision, i often mistake real, normal looking things to be something extremely weird and i freak out. so maybe i could one day mistake something to be a pink elephant?
