Can alcohol stop depression?

i seen a homeless guy on tv... he said... "imagine how depressed you would get on the streets... ofcourse i turn to drinking" : (... does drinking really hold back depression?

  1. no it doesnt stop depression,it just blocks it out short term, best thing for depression is to keep busy, to much time on your hands makes you think to much, think about why your depressed and change things,not easy but life is to short to be down, so be happy

  6. You get this high like you are on top of the world but then after you become sober it comes back.  It is really bad you will become an alcoholic like I did.  Please don't try.

  7. For some, as long as they keep on drinking...  But when they sober up, the problems are worse than ever.  Alcohol is actually a depressant.

  9. no it just puts off reality for a while when youre drunk. and then you come down to earth when youre all sober! ouchhh it'll make you more depressed in the end. just like drugs!  

  10. alcohol is a temporary solution to depression, once the effects wear off, your back to your same old low.

  11. from my experiences, it could help at that point,,, but when you are done drinking and you wake up the next day you can start feeling depresion once again... but if you have the money to drink your *** off daily go for it

    'm depressed". Everyone is depressed, that doesn't mean we all should be alcohol abusers.

    No offense, I was brought up around a lot of alcholics, because they were "depressed". Yeah right.

    But once you start drinking you will want to do it all the time. So don't start.

  22. Alcohol doesn't stop depression it just numbs the sad feelings and it can become a very dangerous crutch as it is easy to slip into a pattern of drinking to escape and become numb. A lot of people who become alcoholics started drinking to block things out and numb certain feelings so it is a very slippery dangerous slope. Xx
