Can a tax exempt organization buy alcoholic beverages without paying the sales tax on the beverages?

  1. If you only asked me sooner!!!  >>Due to recent legislative changes, North Carolina sales tax paid on the purchase of alcoholic beverages is no longer refundable to tax exempt entities. This includes all alcohol, whether purchased in restaurants, through caterers or through grocery or package stores. This change is effective retroactively to July 1, 2006.


  2. Each state has it's own individual exemption laws...but I doubt it. I've had to study tax exempt laws in both PA and OH and I've never seen anything about alcohol being allowed. On the other hand I haven't seen anything about it not being allowed either.

    I guess a few more details are need...What state? What type of exemption does the organization qualify for normally? What is the alcohol to be used for?

    I'm going to stick by my first answer of "no" until i have more details.
