  1. Many 49 cc scooters (mine is a Kymco) are easily de-restricted. The drive belt is restricted from reaching the full range of the CVT Transmission with a spacer. By removing this spacer the Scooter can reach the full highest "gearing" potential of the scoot. Additionally a CDI modification is often done. Best to ask your dealer what applies to your scooter.

  2. ...but if the cops stop you for anything (probably speeding or excess noise) and check the bike you could be in a lot of trouble.

  3. Most 50s can be "derestricted."  Easiest way to tell is to look inside the airbox and see if the baffle in the passage to the carburetor has been removed.  This is usually the first step taken by techs to "derestrict" scoots.

  4. Hi, I will tell you how to fully derestrict your baby bike, then you can check to see whether anyone has done this, then you will know.

Firstly take off the front of the exhaust and look down the hole. If there is a ring tack welded inside there, remove it.

Secondly, you can add performance by adding a larger carb off any bike and using a larger tube to attach it to the reed inlet.

Thirdly, always whack a k&n style air filter on as this always improves the performance on any bike but, do not use on an off roader as it will block the carb.

Fourthly, a performance end can will improve performance and you can pick up cheap ones. The all do the same. Dont be fooled into paying extra for a named one.

Fifthly, invest in a peformance spark plug, well worth it. All of the above are easy mods to improve performance, but you will have to change your piston rings more often.

I know scooters get alot of stick cos i think big bikers on here forget that everyone has to start somewhere. Good luck and keep on biking.
