  1. You won't get Surround sound on any TV set....

You need to connect your DVD player to your Dolby Surround amp, using either the OPTICAL cable or Digital Coax cabling to get surround.....

  2. No. The DVD has to be recorded in surround to play in surround. There are a lot of DVDs (particularly ones converted from old movies) that do not support surround. Look for things like 5.1 or 4.0 at the least to tell you it does.

  3. im pretty sure it can

  4. Yes! why not

  5. Its not the DVD that controls Surrond Sound, its the TV and set up you have

  6. No. The DVD has to be recorded in surround sound. (If it is a commercial DVD this will usually be indicated on the bottom of the back of the case.

Most sound systems will have an option that fakes it simply playing audio from all the speakers but this is not true Dolby Surround Sound. Check your DVD player's manual for this setting.

  7. Most are recorded with 5.1 dolby. If they do not have that then they will play in stereo and through the speakers as such. I had a DVD of the Bells of Saint Mary an old Bing Crosby Christmass type movie. Of course there was no such thing as stero much less 5.1 Dolby. So it played in mono. If you have blue Ray it will have Dolby 5.1 also and a higher resolution. If your set does 1080i it will look good. If it has 1080P it will look incredible. But if the disc does not have 5.1 it won't play 5.1 surround sound. It will still play through all your speakers but it won't sound like surround sound.
