Can all doctors prescribe pain medication? Like Oxycodone HCL 30mg.?

My doctor left the state, but my grandpa is a doctor. The pain from my surgery acted up again, will my grandpa be able to prescribe me oxycodone hcl 30mg. He is an Internal medicine doctor

  1. As long as he has a class II DEA license he can prescribe oxycodone. Although, I agree with above that there are issues with you needing to be an actual patient of his. It shouldn't really be too hard to get away with the fact that you are not his patient unless your state has tracking of their narcotic prescriptions then, especially is you have the same last name it might be an issue of getting caught.


  2. Yes. He can prescribe Oxycodone.

    I don't know if he can prescribe to family though.

  4. Yes, all physcians can prescribe this medication. But it is unlawful for him to prescibe a narcotic to someone who is not his legal patient. Call the place where you had your surgery done. They will have someone there who is taking over your physcians patients. Good luck and get well soon!
