  1. No. You can live there for up to six months but not work legally unless you are perm legal or landed immigrant.

The six months is only for spouses some for a bit longer.

www.cic.gc.ca is the canadian immigration website. canada is not a us state. it is a soveriegn nation.

  2. You would have to find out if you qualify as a skilled worker and complete that immigration route. You can find info on that at www.cic.gc.ca. You could also find a company that would be willing to sponsor you, but that can be tough since they have to prove that they could not find a Canadian to fill the position that they're hiring you for.

There is a test you can take on the Canadian immigration website to find out if you meet the requirements to immigrate as a skilled worker. The process takes anywhere from 2-5 years and is very expensive. You can also check into being a Provincial nominee or a Quebec-selected skilled worker, if you speak French.

Keep in mind you will pay more taxes in general than if you are living in the US. Sales tax is can be up to 18% depending on the province you live in. Income tax can also be a lot higher and varies in each province.

    Good luck!

  3. Americans like citizens of other nations can apply for a work visa to live and work in Canada. It is not necessarily an easy proposition however. Here is a good website on how to obtain employment authorization in Canada: http://www.canadaimmigrationlaw.net/Work...

There has been some job growth in Canada recently (although recent trends indicate that this is slowing somewhat), with much of the job growth taking places in the West (Alberta, BC). You may wish to do some research online to see what the job market for your particular field is. Also, you should be aware that it is expensive to live in Canada, probably more expensive than what you are accustomed to in the US (unless you live in a major, expensive city like New York or San Francisco).

With regards to illegal immigration, there are an estimated 100,000-200,000 illegal immigrants in Canada (visa overstays, illegal workers) vs. 10 million+ in the US.

  4. I don't think it is much easyer for Americans than it is for anyone else.  About the only thing that they have going for them in the immigration process is that they speak English.
