federal law says that u must be 21 years old to buy a from a FFL dealer, but there is no law prohibiting purchase from a NON-FFL dealer. so if i go to a gun show and buy a handgun from a private gun dealer, and my state law allows it, is it okay?

  1. but you will still need to be 21 to buy the ammo....so whats the point...

  2. no you still cant

  3. If your state law allows it, you can buy one from another citizen in your state. As you say, the federal law only prohibits a FFL dealer from selling one to you. Federal law also prohibits you from buying a handgun outside your state of residence.

  4. only in texas

  5. if the state law allows it.. i dont see why not but i wouldnt rush into it!

WHAT KIND OF GUN DO YOU WANT?

  6. Not at a store. Private transactions are ok if your state allows them.

  7. there is a lot of confusion on this matter. Remember this, federal law takes priority over state law. State laws do apply, unless they are in conflict with federal law, in which case federal law applies. Under federal law, you must be over the age of 21 to purchase, or own a handgun. At 18 you may purchase or own any long gun (shotgun or rifle). Hope this helps.

    shoot safe

  8. There are no legal non-FFL dealers in the US.  There are legal private sales between individuals, but all dealers, defined by "being in the business" must be licensed by te federal government.

If it is a private sale, check the laws of your state.  Also, it may be legal for you to purchase one, but not possess it.  Consult a specialist in the law in your jurisdiction.
