Question:

Can an AT&T customer buy an unlocked Sprint phone (the Samsung Instinct)?

I am currently an AT&T customer and must stay that way because it's the only service that offers reception in my area. I am purchasing a new phone and am really impressed with the specs of an Samsung Instinct. (I looked at the LG Vu and wasn't impressed. I want a better GPS and camera than an iphone also, so please don't just suggest I look into another phone.) The Instinct is only for use with Sprint. I know phones can be unlocked, but I am confused at to weather the Instinct will support my AT&T sim card or not. Can someone please help me out? I don't want to pay $200 for a phone that won't work.

  1. I doubt that ATT would let you use it eventhough you can. You can get a AAT phone for 200 I would do that. Better to be safe than sorry...

  2. No.  It will not work.  AT&T's phones and network are GSM, which require sim cards in order to work.  Sprint's phones and network are CDMA, which doesn't use sim cards.  They are two completely different technologies and are not compatible with each other.

  3. Sprint is a CDMA type phone, AT&T is a GSM carrier. They will not work,

  4. yes it will work but im sure u can find an unlocked phone for less than 200 bucks. try amazon or ebay!
