Can an Air Conditioner be installed if there is not window for it to drain from?

I have windows in my dining room that have bars on them. I didn't put the bars there, this is a place that I'm renting. I would like to install an air conditioner but with the bars there, I don't see how the air conditioner would fit. Other than removing the bars, which is not an option, is there any other way to install an AC? Do they make ACs that don't have that large back?

  1. No it cant be  u must have a drain but u might ask for a mini

    portable Air conditioner.

  2. Buy a portable AC.  About $300-$400 for 10,000 BTU.   The tubes vent the hot air outside.

  3. There are portable air conditioners that sit on the floor with a large tube that can be placed in the window to blow out the hot  air.

    good luck

  4. SEARS carries a portable one that vents out through a window but it's sort of like a dryer vent with the surrounds.  It's pricey...like $500, but most of the product reviews were pretty good and you can roll it from one room to another.

I don't know of any a/c unit that doesn't vent to outside because they put off cool air in one direction (inside) and HOT air in the other (outside).

Another thought is to contact your landlord or property management company handling the house and see if they'll install one for you if you buy it.

  5. They make free standing AC units that have a 6" tube that can be stuck in a window opening.  They usually have a piece that the tube snaps into that is adjustable for the window opening.
