Can an American Citizen join the Canadian Military??

I'm a 20yr old, fit, American male. I want to move to Canada, and I figured that the military would be a good way to prove me worthy of citizenship.

I'm just curious if anyone has gone through the process of becoming a citizen of Canada through the military, or if it is even possible!?

So you want to be Canadian, eh?  I don't blame you--sometimes I think Canada is what we could become.  In many ways it seems more enlightened than the US.

As far as joining up, you can.  You won't be able to get high security clearance positions.  And you know you're swearing an oath not only to Canada, but to the Queen.  Don't know if that matters to you.  If you are allowed to have some say in your military specialty, then try to get a job that translates well to the private sector.  That way maybe you can work for a large company with offices in Canada.  The military experience doesn't guarantee you cititzenship, but it's a good start.

Check out recruitingforces.gc.ca then go to noncanadians.

You can always marry a Canadian if you prefer not to get shot at!  Otherwise it's pretty tough to emigrate there--you need a sponsor or you have to be able to do a job that a Canadian can't/won't do.

in your american passport, it is stated as one of the reasons you will lose your american citizenship. so better think carefully, you might end up nationless! ;=)

Blake, just immigrate into it, we get a ton of Canadians that come here to become citizens, it would be good for us to lose some more like you. Why even join the service? You could end up in Afghanistan since they have a lot of troops in that country and they are actually fighting.

Gala, please, tell me how a country that you can go to jail for "Offending" a group is more enlightened? Or how they have nowhere near the Criminal Law Protections that we do? Or the Freedom of the Press that we do? Etc..etc...

I am a US Citizen that immigrated from Canada to the USA in 1968 and after serving 2 years with the Marines in Vietnam became a US Citizen...

Most of my Family still resides in Canada...

More people Die from waiting For Heart Surgey or any other kind of Medical Care in their glorious Universal Heathcare System...Just like OBAMA wants...

Their TAX rates are around 65%...

Sales tax is 15% for Province and 15% for Federal...

Gas is about $5.50 per US gal and it is all pumped right out of  the Canadian Soil...

Yeppers Canada is Great...

The CDN Armed Forces are as about as Bad as the Girl Scouts...
