Can an American( both parents) born on a Military base in the UK get a passport for the UK?

I plan on working for over a year in Ireland helping a friend and I am at a quandary of weather I just need my passport or a visa too

I was born in Lakenheath England on the base and have a registered birth born 1978

  1. In this case you can apply for UK citizenship contact your nearest UK embassy or consulate about this matter.


  2. Since you were born in the UK before 1983 ordinarily you would be able to gain UK citizenship. However, since you were born on a military base did your parents have diplomatic status? Or were they considered an enemy of the UK?

    All births in the UK are registered.

    You may be able to get away with just having the British and the USA passport.
