  1. No, sorry it is no longer valid.

  2. No

  3. No, it cannot be used as a valid ID.

  4. Depends on what you are doing. The bottom line is it is not valid ID.

But for certain things the people are not used to deal with passports and will not even notice. For other things they are required to write down the expiration date.

  5. No.  Just like an out of date license cannot be a valid ID, and out of date passport cannot either.

  6. There are times when a person could use an expired passport to prove something. For example, an expired U.S. passport could be used to prove U.S. citizenship, and could be used for travel purposes when a valid passport was not required.

Right now, to cross the land border, a valid U.S. passport is not a requirement for U.S. citizens. If you traveled by land with an expired one, you could use it to support your claim to U.S. citizenship.

Obviously, your citizenship does not expire because your passport has reached the end of its validity period. Therefore, you are still a U.S. citizen after the passport expires, and the expired passport could serve as proof of citizenship. Naturally, you could NOT use it to get a visa from China or to fly to South Africa, but it could still be a form of ID.

As for signing finance documents, you'd have to ask a banker or a stock broker about that.

  7. An expired document is just that: an invalid document to prove anything.
