No religious answers please - thankyou :-) I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest!

Someone sent me an article of a case in Russia of a woman whose fallopian tubes were both 'blocked' because of scarring from an abortion, but the article was from the Right to Life website so I don't know whether to believe it or not.

  1. Yes its possible but unlikely if the abortion is preformed properly which is pretty likely if its preformed in a legal clinic.

I think theres a 1 in 10.000 chance than an abortion will cause infertility. Almost ALL abortions cause some scarring, usually in the cervix from the vacuume tubes being passed through. But won't cause *infertility* (which means you cannot get pregnant at all) as you could still get pregnant via IVF. this is generally speaking though.

  2. yes it can led to infertility and sometimes having an abortion can kill the mom along with the baby!!, if the dr. doesnt know what they are doing!!!...but hey im pro-life what do i know right?

  3. it can if it is not done right or if there are unexpected complications. Is it common? NO

edit: this link gives you all the possible complication and the likelihood of them happening, also how to avoid them:

  4. Well if done poorly an abortion can leave a permanent scar in your uterus but most of the time no permanent damage is done. If her fallopian tubes were scarred then it was an ectopic pregnancy.

  5. I've heard that it can.  Abortion is an invasive procedure in a very delicate area.  If not treated with care and precision, infertility is a risk.

  6. yes it can, and it has happened to 2 of my friends.  one had 3 and now she cannot get pregnant, the other had 1 and after that she miscarried every time

  7. yes. scarring from an abortion can affect your fertility.

If you have been ttc for 6 months, approach your health care provider with your concerns.

  8. if a curette is performed properly it shouldnt cause any permanent damage.

Sometimes one needs to be performed after a baby is born if the uterus does not empty out sufficently quickly enough.

With ALL operations there are risks.

Anything is possible and there is a reaction for every action.

  10. i wouldnt worry too much! my sister had an abortion at 16 and now shes 21 with a beautiful baby girl!  it can lead to scarring though. she had pretty bad scarring in her cervix but a gyn can remove alot of the scarring! good luck!

  11. Yes it can. Many things can go wrong and make it more difficult or impossible to concieve. You can get an infection and have to have ovaries removed. Many things can cause problems. Anytime you mention sensitive subjects someone will get stirred up.

  12. i had an abortion due to sever birth defects in the baby. it was explained to me  that loosing fertility would be a catastrophic event that would be so rare in the case of a sterile and well preformed abortion. i had no complications, no bleeding after, and a period came 5 weeks post abortion. i fell pregnant in the month following the abortion, and am 11 weeks with a healthy bub and extremely grateful. abortion for whatever reason is a life changing event, and I cannot fathom that people would have one for reasons other than medical, as it is deeply and profoundly sad and tragic. loosing fertility in the western world from a surgical abortion is incredily rare.

  13. NO! Safe, legal abortion will not cause infertility. You can even take the Mifepristone pill, which is available at any doctors office or clinic, and have no surgical interventions that could even be associated (wrongfully) with infertility. Mifepristone is a prescription pill taken in two doses and causes abortion. Some insurance companies will even cover it.
