Can an accountant get to the top of a company?

Question

I am considering studing accounting at the university of tilburg in the Netherlands, since it has one of teh best reputations in europe (or so Ive read). If I get all my qualifications as a charted accountant, is it possible to get up to the top of a company ( e.g. board of directors). In short, a salary of 500k + a year? Or are accountants not generally the people who get there? Please give me a direct answer,

It's possible, though rare.  You'd have to contribute more to the company than just number-crunching.

Your chances to get to the top of the corporate world would be better with a business degree, though still not assured.
