If it flies fast enough, it can.  At the Equator, that means flying faster than the speed of sound, or about 1000 miles per hour.  However, the further north or south you go, the less speedy you need to be.  At high northern latitudes, many jet aircraft can follow the sun easily, and in fact, for quite a few westbound commercial flights in higher latitudes, the sun barely moves during the flight.  You might leave at 4 PM local time, fly for ten hours, and land at 4:30 PM local time.


  2. At the equator, the earth is about 25,000 in circumference.  So your plane would have to be going 25,000mi/24hours or over 1,000 mph to keep up with it.

    At the north or south pole, you could just stand still and keep up with the sun for about 6 month until the Earth tilts on its axis.
