Can an alligator snapping turtle and a common snapping turtle be cross bred?

i was wondering can certain turtles be cross bred, or even kept in the same enclosure, i own an alligator snapper and a res.

  1. People like to think alligator snapping turtles eat a lot of fish... but stomach content studies have shown that about 75% of a wild alligator snapping turtle's diet is other turtles... don't house them with anything else... even another one of their own... unless you have a LOT of room and a lot of hiding places, and even still, things might not be pretty.

    I hope you've got something in mind for your snapper when you're gone, I promise if you take care of it correctly it will outlive you easily.

    A thumb's down, huh? Oh well... considering the fact that my father's alligator snapping turtle ate a common snapper that wasn't really that much smaller than her, I can rest comfortably in the fact that I do know what I'm talking about. The gator snapper may not be able to eat another large turtle whole, but it WILL kill and eat what it can get at.


  2. If you try, you will have two very cross turtles and no offspring. I'd suggest keeping your turtles apart. While they occupy different niches, neither is very friendly to other turtles.
