  1. Immigration to Australia is currently virtually impossible unless you have skills and experience in a listed occupation in which Australia has a shortage of workers. If you qualify on that score, our economy is booming and there are plenty of jobs. Our government is currently talking about greatly increasing immigration as they see a real threat to our economy if jobs across the board remain unfilled, but politicians being what they are, it may be a while before they actually do anything about it.

Under current rules, you must get a sponsored or independent Skilled Worker visa, pass a points test and meet our health and character requirements.

First step - see if your occupation is on the SOL (Skilled Occupations List)

    http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121...

If it's on there, check out your points test score and compare it to the required pass mark.

Everything you need to check and know is on the official Immigration and Citizenship website -

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm

To become an Australian citizen, you must have been lawfully resident in Australia for four years immediately before applying including 12 months as a permanent resident. You must also pass a Citizenship Test

  2. It is not easy.  You must have a job skill that is badly needed there to apply for a work visa...even then it can take 2 to 3 years to get the visa. See site below to research visas and immigration.

  3. okkies one quick thing i'd like to point out, dual citizenship is out of the question if you move from america to australia. as soon as you get the aussie citizenship you loose your american one automatically. americans think that you must love only america :P i know as my hubbie is american and lives here in oz now. altough if he went back with an aussie citizenship and applied for an american one as well thats ok as australia lets you have dual citizenship with america. crazy hey.

anyways its super hard moving to australia from america. if you do not have money in the bank and i dont mean $50 and you dont have a trade australia wants, forget it. you'd be better off finding an aussie gf and marriying her then moving.

my hubbie, who we lived together for over 5 years had dificulty. we spent over $10,000 with just the paper work and a lawyer not to mention all the health checks, police recorde ect ect you must do. australia government wants you super healthy so you don't use health care system, doesnt want a trouble maker, so you dont use our jails, have a good job that is in demand here, so you dont use our welfare system, and have money in the bank, so you don't need our welfare money.

it also took about a year to get all the paper work through and this is with an expensive lawyer, hubbies good career, my career, a marriage, perfect health, no criminal records. crazy hey.

but its worth it to live in australia so good luck if you decide to come here and check out the govenment site www.immi.gov.au. although that site does make it seem easier than it really is as we werent going to get a lawyer at first untill we spoke to others in our situation.

  4. Yes, i suggest you get a dualcitizenship, so you dont lose your american citizenship.

Its a fairly riskything moving internationally basically, consider these things.

    1. the cost of living and housing is expensive once you come here it will be hard for you to rent out a place because the realesate market here is crazy.

    2. Internet is not as widely available here. Our max internet speed is 30. Compared with americas 100.

3.We dont have towns like in the states. Our towns might only have a few hundred people.

    On the flipside though,

There is better healthcare here. Its a combination of public and private.

Nicer people, in general you can get hostile, americans that are alittle ignorant.

There are alot of jobs around espically the ones in demand like medicine and construction.

IF you are qualified in a trade, ie. electrician, plumber, tradesman there are plenty of jobs.

Generally you can probably get a rental if you have a job.

Also not as many taxes here.

It takes 3 years to become a citizen.

you have to live here in that time.

    GOODLUCK.

  5. 3 years until you can become a full Citizen.

(you have to live there 3 years that is)
