Question:

Can an analog to digital converter work like a cable box?

I have the verizon fios basic cable package, and I recently stopped getting my signal (I don't have a cable box and they switched over to digital). If I buy an analog to digital converter, and use the 2 RF input/outputs, will I be able to receive my cable channels again? If not, why?

Also, can you buy a cable box instead of renting one from the company?

  1. you can buy a box- as of 7.07 the fcc has madated that all tv service companies use an open access system..

you can buy a box and then you have to rent a cable card from the cable co. which usually runs like 1$ a mo.

  2. with the analog/digital converter, you will get less stations.  It is 3.99 per month and a  box is 5.99 per month so you are much better off with a box

NO, you CANNOT buy a box with verizon fios, it will not work, you have to rent boxes from them only

  3. No. A digital-to-analog converter box will allow you to continue using your existing analog TV to watch over-the-air digital broadcasts.

You do not need to get rid of your existing analog TV. In addition, analog sets should continue to work as before if connected to a subscription service such as cable or satellite TV.

YES  you can buy own  box instead or renting one from the company
