Can an anchor of ship reach the seafloor in 5km depth of water?

  1. No... it would actually require 3 times the length to anchor minimum most would have 4 - 5 times the depth laid... so if they had 20km of rope they could...

    Not something boat normally want to do either, in extreme weather may use a Drougue or sea anchor - but this is dragged on the surface


  2. ship may not have other use though,if it  carried 5 km of anchor chain.......?

  5. 5 km is 16,394 feet. thats 3.105 miles. To anchor a ship or boat the anchor line needs to be 5 times the water depth.The only way, would be to cut the anchor loose. It would reach the bottom in just a few minutes. .
