  1. Normally he can't. But it all depends on your job description. The assistant manager however, can recommend to the manager the situation and explain the reasons for the firing of an employee. The manager then, reviews that employees record and work and then makes the decision.


  2. It depends on the responsibilities and authority given to the assistant manager and the company's policies, but yes, it can happen, and can happen as easily as saying "you're fired."

    Not every company limits the privilege of hiring and firing to upper management, and not all companies have lengthy, complex termination policies. Some companies place trust in the middle and lower management personnel to make necessary judgment calls and terminate useless employees as they see fit.
