Can an employer ask and employee to pay part of their H1b fees. The total cost is around $5,000. One part?

i know the employer must pay - the visa petition. But can the employee offer to pay the filing fees, etc?

  1. On paper, the employer is supposed to pay.. but in reality, some employers will make you pay.

    My employer did nothing more than sign the paperwork and provide the requested information. I had to pay for everything.

    Your lawyer will be able to figure out how to make it look right on the application.

    So yes - the employee can offer - or sometimes find him/herself forced to pay everything themselves.

    By the way - $5000 for an H1B visa sounds like a pretty steep price.

    Should be more in the ballpark of $2500 - $3000.

    You may want to double-check with a few immigration lawyers to make sure you're not getting ripped off.
