Can an employer cut out health insurance benefits entirely without first informing the employees?

  1. There is no law that states they have to tell you, however, they can only change the plans during open enrollment times which happen once a month.  During open enrollment, ask them if they are making any changes for the entire group!


  2. Unfortunately yes. Employee benefits are a voluntary thing employers do and if the businesses having trouble they can drop the benefits whenever they feel like it.

  4. Yes, and it does happen.

    That's when you know it's time to look for a new job.

  5. Yes, but you have options (COBRA, etc.).  However, I don't know if I'd work for a company that did that.

  6. Benefits are only for employee retention.  In this down economy where many people are looking for a job, keeping someone on when they can pay someone else less money is not the best of choices.
