  1. it depends on where you are........

in most states it is a matter of the companies policy.

in some states when you quit and give proper notice the accrued vacation time must be paid.

in California if you are fired or quit it must be paid.

    so..................................

  2. yes. employers offer vacation to use while you work for them if you quit or get fired its up to them rather you get paid for it or not.

  3. Yes.  Your initial contract that you signed with your employer would have indicated the surrender of any unused vacation/personal days when you leave...even if you give notice.

  4. If you have earned the vacations, the employer will pay you when you leave.  Examples.

Paid Time off (PTO) if you companies is under paid time off, that means that you accrued hours per month. and you earned them as you go. so if you employers pays 2 weeks a year. and you were hired in January, more likely you will not be able to take  PTO for 6 months. but you still accrue. So if  you took 2 days in August. and you quit your job in September you still have abut 44.03 hours coming to you when you leave.

If you employer pays for vacations at the beginning of the year. that means that at the time you, say September, you have earned or accrued about 60.00 hours. Assuming that you have not taken any days off. they will pay you for 60. hours. if you quit in February. you would only accumulate about 13.37 hours accrued. therefore; they would only pay you for 13.37 hours. not the whole 2 weeks.  At least that is the law in CA. I am not sure about other states.
