Steering wheel wobbles at 60mph. Is this caused by the loose hub cap or do wheels need balancing and the hub cap is incidental?

  1. If a hubcap is not centered when driving, then the weight isn't centered. I'd take the hubcap off and test it without.

  2. Hub cap not the problem, take it off and take vehicle on freeway and the same codition will still be there. Have the tires rotated to the rear and see if the problem is solved. Then have the tires inspected for broken cords, balance, and abnormal wear. And why, could be alignment, loose steering components, worn, broken, bent. I would start with moving the front tires to the rear and road test the vehicle.

  3. All wheels are to be balance at all time, take it to a certified mechanic and have them check your steering it could be your steering is bad

  4. Yes. Take it off if and if it still wobbles then it is the hubcap.
