  1. yes, you could. but why would you do that? i mean, it's an olympic gold medal.. it's not that easy to get..

  2. Sure, why not ?

  3. I don't think you will be seeing many gold olympic medals in pawn shops in the philippines over the next 4 years ha ha. for a start you need to have them to be able to sell them

  4. One winner sold hers on an auction site and raised $80K for a charity - that may be a better way to go.

  5. Sure. Its not made of pure gold but its fine.

If you are to pawn the Beijing Olympic gold medal, it may be more pricey since it has white jade. In Chinese culture, its the most precious jade. But Filipinos dont know jade that much. So maybe not...

But did you know that Anthony Villanueva, the 1st Filipino silver medalist in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 sold most of his medals and boxing awards for about 1000 php. The Philippine Sports Commission would intentionally forget athletes as soon as they lose the limelight of their success.

  6. why pawn it? you can use it to claim bonus money from GMA.

  7. almost anything can be pawned in a pawn shop...

but, the medal isn't really gold metal...

  8. well, do you have one?

  9. a gold tooth easier to pawn.

  10. yes

  11. I suppose it can be pawned.  But it may not be as much as you think.

According to the Olympic Charter, the gold and silver medals must each be made of at least 92.5 percent pure silver and the gold medal must be gilded with at least six grams of gold.

We all know that the price of gold changes daily.   Let's say there’s six grams of gold in each gold medal at the current prices per troy ounce, the gold in a gold medal today would be worth around $160.

The remainder of the gold medal is made out of silver. The price of silver also fluctuates, but at an average of $14.50 per troy ounce, the remaining silver in the gold medal hovers around $60.

So the estimated monetary value is around $220, depending on how the markets are doing on any given day. This year's medals also include Jade for the first time, which could impact the value too.

To athletes, however, these medals are PRICELE$$!

  12. If it's gold and is, at least, 12k then, yes.

  13. make sure that the pawnshop owners are REALLY REALLY trustworthy...
