My friend had a problem recently which seems to have been caused by an open bottle of B-Vitamins. He couldn't get the smell out with laundering and had to throw out almost everything he owns. Is this possible? He also thought it might have been due to fertilizer used outside his apartment, but the smell does smell like vitamins, and he did have an open bottle lying around. We took the capless bottle and put plastic wrap over it, with a tight rubber band, and then put that inside a ziplock. Today I noticed that you can still smell the vitamins, but could they have that drastic an effect?

Also, what can be done to remove the odor from fabrics, and from a room?

  1. Vitamins B did not cause this odor.I can't say what it could possibly be but I don't think that would be it unless something drastic is wrong with them.In any case throw them out.Frebreeze will fix the odor and maybe hang clothes out doors.Or take them to a dry cleaners they can do them.

  2. I have never heard of such a drastic odour coming from vitamins of all things.  If the clothing and linens are that smelly, I would wash them in Tide or some other high end laundry detergent, then hang them outside to dry.  The sunshine and air will do wonders for smell.

If you cannot hang the laundry because of apartment dwelling, I suggest some of those dryer sheets that you just throw in with the laundry while it dries...

  3. I find it hard to believe that the vitamins caused this odour. Have the vitamins expired, maybe? So the smell is concentrated? I would throw out the vitamin B.

To get rid of odours use Fabreeze on clothes and on fabrics in the room. I also use a dryer sheet in my closets or anywhere, really, it leaves a nice scent.
