  1. I think you meant an Optometrists if so YES they can and most often do BUT they can't really tell you so they will send you back to your doctor for testing and your doctor just knows to check for diabetes from the source.

    My Mother was Dx'ed this way about 50 years ago.


  2. I think that an ophthalmologist possibly could, but not an optician. Opticians are not doctors.

  3. No, opticians make your glasses, they do not examine your eyes. Optometrists can detect problems that show up in diabetics but will not diagnose you with diabetes. An Ophthalmologist is a doctor of eye diseases and is a specialist of eye diseases.

    Actually, my Endocrinologist says it's OK that I can go to my Optometrist for my yearly check-up because they are much more knowledgeable than years ago and will send me to an Ophthalmologist if they detect any problems.

  4. I am only 11 and don't really know what optician is but. I do have diabetes and if that word means blurriness.then yes if you would like to know more then please just email me.
