I am 15 years old and i want to go visit my family, but my mom can't take me because of her job. Can I cross the border by myself? I have someone to take me to El Paso or the place I go to and then I have my uncles to pick me up on the other side, but no one to go with me while crossing.

Is there something I can do?

  1. you can go on your own as long as you know what you are doing and have plent of id i have added this unerneath for your safety

Over 100,000 American teenagers and young adults travel to resort areas throughout Mexico over Spring Break each year.  While the vast majority enjoys their vacation without incident, several may die, hundreds will be arrested, and still more will make mistakes that could affect them for the rest of their lives. Using some common sense will help travelers avoid these unpleasant and dangerous situations.

    good luck

  2. I believe you can go but if you're in Mexico for over 6 days then you need a visa and need a parent with you. I'm sure you can cross over but I'm not sure about crossing back into the U.S...I've always been with a parent and when I've gone to Mexico for a week, before I turned 17 since I was still a minor I needed permission from my father even though my mom was going with me.

  3. a letter from you mother might help

  4. I happen to live here underage and I feel iI the best to help. Some of the others answers were wrong. You need a passport, you need $22 for a visa and you need a notarized letter from your guardian giving you permission, athough its hardly ever asked for

  5. If you are a U.S Citizen or have a passport you can cross alone iam 13 and come and go all the time.

  6. That bit about need ing a visa if you are in Mexico over 6 days is complete nonsense.  If you go by LAND you do not need a passport. and you do not need a visa either.  You will get a tourist card for about $22.00 USD at the border. Now, if someone can take you to El Paso, why can't that same person take you on across the border to meet  your uncles there?  That person would need a letter from  your parents ( BOTH parents must sign) and the letter must be notarized.  It needs to give that person permission to take you to Mexico.  Your  parents would need to send a similar letter for your uncles to have to show they have permission to have you with them in Mexico, and later to bring you back to the border. If your father is not avail. to sign the latter, your mother would ned to shoe that she has sole custody of you. You would have to be absolutely certain your uncles would be there to get you at the right time so you would NOT be stuck alone for any time at all.  You would need to carry your birth certificate and be sure you have it when you return.  All this applies if you are an American citizen...if you are not a citizen, don't do it, or you will not get back into the U.S.  This is all preety complicated and I would worry about you...It would sure be better if the adult who takes you could take you all the way to your destination, then come back for you.  If that person is an American citizen,  he would not need a passport or a visa, just the letter of permission. and I.D.
