Yes, and interestingly enough  human cells called HeLa cells (Henrietta Lacks) are grown.  I have grown them myself for experimentation!  There are other animal cells also used like the chinese hamster ovary.  I have cultured mouse cells before and seen this done numerous times by others.  People can now either keep or donate umbilical stem cells after giving birth.  This has been used to treat people who need bone marrow transplants.  And when you hear about stem cells, well those are growing on artificial media.  Check out the link below about Henrietta Lacks.  Its very interesting.
