Can animals laugh or find things funny?

or are they not smart enough to understand comedy or funny things? like if an elephant fell in a funny way would his elephant friends find it funny?

I'm sure animals find stuff funny and express what they feel some how think of the monkeys they play jokes, and I learned some even know how to speak their own language and sign language, some times I wonder what they talk about.

Any animal that enjoys playing probably has a sense of humor. When I play with my brother's Pug, he gets a kick out of it when I throw his toy across the long tiled kitchen/dining area. Of course he slips and winds up sliding into the wall, and when he comes back he has the funniest little grin every time. If he didn't think it was amusing, he'd not chase the toy. Right from the first time, it was like in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" when PW crashes the dirt bike, stands up and says, "I meant to do that." The Pug really finds the whole spectacle amusing, which is part of the fun. I believe any being that can show affection and loyalty has access to humor. That's not just affection and loyalty to humans, but to all others.

Some animals appear to have a sense of humor.  

In my opinion dogs have a sense of humor and find some things funny.  When a dog "sneezes," it is usually in response to something funny.  Like when the toy poodle puppy went around mounting each of the big greyhound's legs, the greyhound stood there a while, then sneezed and walked away smiling.

Ferrets, if you've had one as a pet, definitely have a sense of humor; you can tell by the way they play.  If you try to catch one, it may hide under the furniture.  If you try to barricade one under the furniture, it will run out.  If you ignore it, it will sneak up and nip your ankle.  They are funny creatures.

I haven't observed wild animals enough to notice a sense of humor in them, but I imagine some of them do.

I'd dare say yes. Chimps are recorded to laugh. I've seen dogs "grinning" away sneakily stealing glimpses.

Never seen it.  I know they love, and they play.  They get sad and hurt.  But laughing, why does a man laugh.  Must have something to do with the knowledge of good and evil.

My German Shepard laughs all the time. Everytime she sees something funny, like my cat running head first into walls. She smiles too when she gets petted.
