I've always wondered if it were possible that antique dealers and collectors could tell if a piece was not desirable because it might have some paranormal attachment.

  1. First you assume in your question that an antique dealer would not buy something that he/she determined had a ghost attached to it. The attachment of the ghost could also be why they decide to buy the item.

I'm certain some antique dealers could be psychic sensitives and possibly detect some things about pieces of furniture.

However, that is not part of their training in order to be able to determine if something is haunted you have to get training and pass the licensing examine in your state for plumbers.

  2. I don't know if one could pick up on that immediately.

There is a museum in Philadelphia that collects haunted or possessed things. Whether it's dolls, toys, radios, etc.....so the possibility is there.

  3. >personally, I have never been around an antique that was haunted. I have bought all my furniture new. My mom worked in an antique shop and used to bring home stuff all the time, I am sure we never got a ghost from it. I would be more inclined to think a car would be haunted since people have a far greater attachment to their autos than their headboards. I agree with  TR and Zach, if you could advertise it, it would double its price. Although if I knew a piece was haunted, I might buy it for your house TR and Zach, but I think I would keep it out of mine.

  4. Are you speaking of "Christine"??!!! lol We have a car in our back yard now that somebody gave us that we've been calling "Christine" too.lol Hopefully , it 's just a joke.  I sure wouldn't buy one that I really thought had a paranormal attachment to it. Well..in that case..what about all the antique cars that Jay Leno has...and other rich people? I think most of the ones like "Christine"  aren't owned by rich people. I think if it was "possessed"...it would be looking for the original owner. Maybe if someone tried to buy it...the horn would go off.

Edit.. Someone gave me a medal that others told me had spells on it. I threw it away.

Edit..I wasn't awake! lol Thought you wrote "antique cars". lol BTW...How do you know that your computer isn't possessed?  The one I'm on now had a previous owner. Hopefully, my new one will be back from the shop in a few weeks.  So if I sound different..that might be why!lol

  5. I am a psychic sensitive and I will tell you.  I have been in antique stores and they are full of spiritual energy!  Yikes!  It actually was so strong,,it gave me a headache and I became very very tired.

And I imagine if there was a spirit attached to an antique,,they just may follow you home..lol  They hang around there because those are things in life they may of had or are familiar with and brings them some comfort and can't let go of.

I can sometimes tell if a piece has a lot of energy in it..I actually had two ghosts follow me home because of it.

It's weird..but interesting. As long as you know how to deal with it..lol

  6. Some of these answers deserve 2 or 3 thumbs up instead of just one!!!  If a dealer/buyer is "sensitive" then they should have an idea there is an energy attached to a paticular item, but as another responder said these people are FEW and FAR between. You seem to be focusing on the negative side of that scale but it is a two way street. I have a coat stand a friend gave to me that is positivly charged in some way. I have no idea where SHE got it, but I wouldn't part with it for anything. There is another side to your question that needs to be looked at. MOST people have a sensitivity to this and other types of things, but do not realize what it is, or acknowledge info that comes in. When buying pre-owned items of any kind there is ALWAYS a chance person can be bringing home more than the know. As others have already told you, things can have "attachments" because of previous owners feelings involving the item. It does NOT have to be an antique. I honestly believe that the materialistic type personality is most likely to unknowingly bring more home than they realize, in scenario you are talking about, than the average person. An item with "attachments" will draw the attention of MANY people from all differents walks of life. The vast majority of these people will have no idea there is a REASON they have noticed THAT item instead of the one sitting next to it. We all have guides and/or angels around us wether we realize it or not. When the average person comes across a "charged" item, they will normally check it out and then PUT IT BACK if it has a NEGATIVE energy attached. That is due to a little help from their guide/angel and the person will have no concious idea of what just happened. A materialistic person is more likely to pick up same item and not really like it, but buy it anyway due to fact it is worth more than they are paying or item has some kind of prestige they think will impress their peers. That is a DOUBLE whammy on the buyer. They did not listen to their "gut" or "first instinct" when they bought it so they will not have any idea that item could be responsible for strange/frightening things that start happening later. Scariest....Saddest...??? thing  is that buyer has just exposed all other people in the home [and maybe more] to whatever activities the attached spirit is capable of. If you yourself have an item you find questionable, it might be in your best interest to post this question in here: "How can a person tell if SOMETHING they have...is haunted?"  I started this response with kudos to other responders and they deserve it, I am willing to bet somebody in here has the answer to that question as well. Hope this helps and if you have a problem....Good Luck!

  7. no there is no sure fire way to tell if pieces picked up by an antiques dealer have sort of attachment to them by the dealer.  Most will laugh at the thought of having a piece of "haunted" merchandise.  But it does happen.  Most of the time, they don't keep the antiques for very long since they depend on turnover to make their money.  It is only after the item is purchased and taken to its new home that the majority  start to experience problems.

There is a web site that actually has a lot of haunted pieces that are in a museum setting.  It is in Ct. and John Zappis(sp) is the curator.  Most of the time he is contacted by the owners of different things and is asked to remove the items in question.  It is worth the look.

If you are experiencing problems with items, you might want to contact him in regard to the matter and I am sure he will return your e mail or call.

  8. People that like antiquariat know that they can "feel" what they buy and thats why they buy,

I think there are very rare cases of what you say.

  9. only if they are sensitive to such things.

  10. I'm not sure if they cant tell but I think it could happen. I saw a show once where a spirit was attached to a piano

  11. If you believe in that stuff, then sure, there's nothing stopping you from also believing in haunted furniture or the ability of mediums to detect spirits trapped within.

Personally, if someone was selling an antique that was supposed to be haunted, I'd be more inclined to buy it. It would have a story that could make for fun conversation with guests. :)

  12. I was at an antique shop that was closing up. They had a haunted chair, nice looking chair, that kept being returned because someone would push people out of the chair.  Sold five times and returned with the same story every time.  They left the chair in the shop for the new renters.  After about a month the new renters called in a priest to clean the shop of evil spirits.  Also when you go into that shop all your batteries go dead.  It has killed my watch two times.

  13. A piece of furniture that was haunted would increase it's value. With today's interest in the supernatural. There would be a bidding war.In Hotels that are supposedly haunted. There is a waiting list for rooms.People pay to go on ghost hunts. There is a large market to be exploited.

  14. Good Question, but no they don't have that ability.

Most antiques are not haunted, but there is an "impression" left on "some" antiques from the past owners.  More so if the item was a personal or treasured item, something that they were very attached too.

You do come across a very few items that the spirit actually is so attached, that they stay with the item, but that is few & far in between.

I can't say how many times I have been to antique stores & have felt impressions of a particular item.

Not all items are like that tho, but then again what I can't feel, someone else may be able to pick up on.
