I have had these symptoms for about a week, I am only going probably once or twice a day but my anxiety has been acting up really bad. I have been on the same medication for about 10 years, maybe is is time to switch?

  1. Anxiety can cause diarrhea. But changing medications should only be a part of the treatment. Try to address the underlying cause of the anxiety.

  2. Yes, anxiety, stress and nerves can do that.

As in IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

I've been learning about this at the Radiant Recovery website

If you visit there, check out "sugar feelings" too.

You don't have to suffer so much.

    Good luck with this!

  3. ABSOLUTELY, anxiety, stress and nervousness give you frequent diarrhea. I had that before, I took tons of anti-diarrheal meds (Immodium) and many others (e.g. cholestryamine) since I was in junior high, senior high and throughout university. Mine got worse after gall bladder removal surgery 3 years ago. Now I am diarrhea free after taken Chinese medication...yes, those yucky dark bitter meds...non stop..for few months. I am now enjoying all kind of food even french fries and deep fried food.

  4. Hi. Absolutely, stress and anxiety can cause diarrhea. I suffer from both, and when i get really nervous or stressed it always happens to me. As soon as it starts, i try to take some Imodium, and that will usually help it slow down. If your anxiety is acting up, that's probably why it's happening. I don't know that changing your meds is really necessary. Mine gets worse when i'm more anxious too. Hope you feel better soon, hugs :-)

  5. I agree with you.  Ten years is a long time to be taking the same medication.  You probably built up a tolerance for that medication so it might have stopped working as well.  Talk to your doctor about your anxiety, stress and nerves.   I hope you will feel better soon.  Please take care of yourself.
