I don't understand what you mean by capital gains in this context.

A company can declare interim dividend, special dividend or one

time dividend [all are the same] at any time of a an year at any time interval.I presume the capital gains you are talking about, is

the profit earned [buying a stock at a lower price and selling at a

higher person by an INVESTOR ]and not by the company. If I have

not understood your question properly, just ignore its second part.
