  1. Many construction companies still hire in this situation.

Mulch manufacturing companies, farm labor, etc.  Also, check with the local county/state - jail/prison system in your state.  Many have programs such as "work release" program for certain in-mates.  Find out where these inmates go to work everyday and go apply.  I used to be a supervisor at a major company where about 1% of our work force were in-mates.  (Loading and unloading trucks, forklift operators, handlers, etc.)

There are many companies in California and Florida that hire people on parole due to a tax break.  Talk to your parole/probation officer and they should have a list of companies that hire.

  2. This is a hard question to answer. The advice I can give is to ask for recommendations from your parole officer of places that hire ex-cons. It takes a lot of work and effort, but just be persistent and you should be able to find a job. Make sure you are honest with your potential employers. Explain as best you can the circumstances surrounding your past, and emphasize that you have learned from everything and am trying to move ahead. Smile a lot and practice what you say to the prospective employers so they see your commitment to doing right. If they see the confidence in your mannerisms then they are more like to hire you.

  3. Have you been to the Texas Employment Commission?  They are there to help people both getting and not getting unemployment.
