  1. You are better off buying a quality sunglass frame from an optical shop. Mainly, most of them are prescription compatible, so no problem getting lenses. They are also much better quality since many of them are made by companies who make the standard frames for regular glasses.

Most department store glasses are made very cheap, with lousy hinges etc. If the frame breaks and you cannot get another, you may be stuck with a pair of expensive lenses you cannot wear. Frames purchased at an optical shop are generally warrantied for a year by the manufacturer, but I'm sure it will vary by individual places. Usually this replaces the frame at no cost to you. Crappy places like lenscrafters have a breakage warranty that  states "if you break your glasses within one year, you can get a second pair at half the current retail price". Some warranty, they make you buy another pair!!

You can also bring your glasses in to have them adjusted any time it is needed. Which is a valuable service, since sunglasses usually don't get treated well. Sometimes what seems like a savings in the long run doesn't save much at all. You get what you pay for.

  2. If they are a good enough quality they can.  Take them to your optometrist and they can let you know.

  3. There are so many variables that you have to consider that it would probably be best if you take it to your optometrist they will be able to tell you or even better still buy your sun glass frame from them, they should know what can and cannot work, thus not paying for something you can't use.

But to answer your question, no not all sun glass frames can be used for Rx lenses. A lot depends on your Rx, also the base curve of the frame, your pd(inter pupillary distance) the size of the frame or lenses that has to be fitted into the frame. If you have a rather small Rx without a large cylindrical component you will get away with a wider range of frames but the higher the Rx the more limited your choice becomes. Large shield type frame's (the ones were its just one big lens in front of both eye's, think Paris Hilton) can not be Rx'ed at all, only if it has inserts behind the shield but I haven't seen any of those before.

  4. i think lencrafters can take any frames and convert them to rx frames if the frame itself is still in good shape... but i would give them a call..

  5. The Rx glasses can be made from sunglasses depending upon the type and make of sunglasses. Many sunglasses have fitted lenses which once removed cannot be refitted. The Sunglasses with s***w fitted lenses have their lenses changable and hence rx lenses can be fixed in them.

Care but be taken in the quality of the frames too.

Its not advisable to have the rx sunglasses made on cheap made sunglasses
