Is this correct?

Maybe some time this week my mom can stop by the shelter and pick up the release forms and any other papers you may want my parents and me to sign.

Is it my parents and me or my parents and I?

  1. The correct phrase is "my parents and me" because it is the object of the verb "want."

"My parents and me" is not the subject of "sign" because sign is in infinitive form ("to sign") and therefore can't have a subject. An infinitive often acts as a noun, or in this case, it acts to modify what exactly is wanted.

As others have pointed out, if you replace "my parents and me" with just "me" or "us," it just sounds right, although you can't always rely on that in English!

Also, the structure of the sentence can be changed slightly to make "my parents and I" correct:

Maybe some time this week my mom can stop by the shelter and pick up the release forms and any other papers that my parents and I should sign.

In the case above, the infinitive "to sign" is replaced with the compound verb "should sign," which does have "my parents and I" as the subject.

  2. Is my parents and I

  3. parents and me

  4. It is correct.  To check, try removing the "and" part:

If you would say: you may want me to sign

Then you also say: you may want my parents and me to sign

  5. my parents and me. :D hope this helps!!

  6. I think it is really I that you should use.

For example, what you are really trying to convey is "...any other papers you may want/wish (for) my parents and I to sign."  Both "parents" and "I" are subjects of the verb "to sign".  It just sounds more correct somehow to say "I".

  7. my parents and i

  8. my parents and me.

remove the parents and how does it sound?

do you want I to sign it     or do you want me to sign it.

  9. edit:  ^^^^^^^^^ J.S. is right.  That's the trick I was taught in school, and the one I always use.

I think you have it right.  But that's just a hunch.  I have no source to back up my claim.

  10. My mom will most likely stop by the shelter some time this week and pick up the release forms, as well as any other papers you may have for us to sign. Thank you!!

I think it's my parents and I.... but your sentence is confusing.

  11. My parents and I is actually the proper grammer.

    Hope I helped!

    Sarah

  12. my parents and i to sign

  13. My parents and ME

If it was not so bad, it would almost be funny. So far, nine people have posted an answer saying 'my parents and I' is correct. It is hard to believe that that many people would show their complete ignorance of the language in public.

  14. change the order: ' you may want me and my parents to sign.'

  15. My parents and I

  16. take and out between shelter and pick and put a comma. my parents an i is correct.

    i'm a language arts teacher.

  17. parents and I.

  18. My parents and me.

You want me to sign, not I to sign.

  19. yes. it's correct. it's not my parents and I. look at it this way: if you take out my parents, it'd be 'you may want me to sign.' you consider the closest subject. not both.
