  1. I can guarantee that this "hotel" is going to be filled with rats, bed bugs, hookers, and drug dealers/addicts.

Do yourself a favour and save a bit more before coming out, i did the move alone at age 18 and i was glad i'd stashed come money in the bank to get myself a nice apartment, it was worth it.

Look for a roommate in a safe area, it's your best bet!

  2. Definitely check craigs list and the newspapers. Rental rates in Vancouver are not that different. For a little bit more, you could probably find a much nicer place. Try a basement suite in South Vancouver somewhere. They're pretty cheap, usually include utiities and cable and don't have leases, so you can move if you don't like it. Try that before hastings.

  3. Hastings and what? Don't recognize the street name Grode. The advantage of a hotel is that you can move out quick if you want to. Save some money so you don't have to find a job right away, enough to pay two months' rent and living expenses. Find a job first, then look for a better place to live if you like. It wouldn't hurt to come to Vancouver and check out the hotel before you commit yourself, some of those cheap places really are pretty bad, some are okay.

  4. The first thing you should do is get a job in the area you desire to live.  If you go there how long will you be able to survive with the current money you have available?  You will probably have to take a trip there to set things up before dropping your two week notices and renting your U-Haul.

If you don't have any connections there then network some during your relocation expedition.

    Good Luck!

  5. i really don't think you should live in hastings. not only is it the worst area in vancouver, but i recently found out that its the worst slum in canada. on hastings (the part near chinatown) you can't walk 2 steps without seeing a hobo or a drug addict. i suggest that you live in a city close to vancouver, such as burnaby, richmond, or perhaps new westminister. im pretty sure that for the same cost, you would be able to find a much nicer place. if you pick richmond or burnaby its pretty easy to get to vancouver. its about a 10 - 45min car ride depending on where you wanna go and on traffic.

    heres a site for you...

  6. have u checked out craigslist: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/ 'cause u might be able to find a place in a better part of town probably around the same amount... good luck!
