The trouble with the ones I have tried is that the pieces move in a split second without any warning and you cannot readily see which one it was.

  1. There are alot of people who enjoy using www.chess.com for their online playing.

Also you may want to check out Fritz at chessbase.com for its online playing well.

  2. The best chess client is right here on Yahoo. When you're in a game, there's a box you can check to turn 'show last move' on or off. Once it's on, when your opponent (or you) move, there will be a coloured box around the piece that's been moved. It also shows a list of moves at the side of the board, that you can use as reference to see where the pieces have been moved during the game. You can play Yahoo chess online here:

If you don't like the fast pace of the games, maybe you should check out Gameknot. In a Gameknot game, you can move wherenever you want, then leave the game. You can make the time limit per move anywhere between a day and 2 weeks. It's much slower, but you can think a lot more on your moves that way. There's also a review game option, where you can go through all the moves made up until the current move, that opens up in a new screen. It's very useful. Check it out here:

Chess.com has a similar game format:

    Good luck!
