  1. well feather plucking is want birds do to old one. They need mite dust for mites, and lot OF TIME SPEND WITH THEM .TOYS IN THE CAGE TO STOP the boredom

  2. Toys, toys and more toys as a start

spend as much time as you can with them

treat them as a family member and not just another pet

Tricks or just another way to spend quality time with them, tech them any tricks as long as you spend time with them... Try "Good Bird Inc" (Google it). I highly recommend the technics taught by her...

  3. Hi African Grey's are lovely animals  ....

and bloody smart at that too  ....

I don't own or never had a parrot but i know alot about animals and what keeps them entertained and Happy

A few ideas i think would keep a African Grey happy

    * instead of just putting food in a dish and giving it to him .. cover the dish in a piece of material .. or likewise that way he'll have to discover a way to get it off thus taking time ....

also hang some fruit upside down on the cage rooof .. which wil give him things to do .. and lots of hard nutts

*hang  some shiny bells/toys in his cage . (parrots are attracted to shiny things)

*give him lots of *parrot friendly chew toys* which will give him Hours of fun to Peck and chew at

look at some of these as examples

also if you ever go out and worry about leaving him alone

leave some music on for him .... preferably some "rain-forest" music

some other tips when placing the cage

place it preferably near a window  .. and a really good idea is to have a "wild" bird feeder outside and he can watch all the birdies eat!

also give your bird time to come out of his cage .. and interact with YOU  .. parrots bond unconditionally with their owners . .  .

so you need to spend lots of time with you. . .

but if you are NEVER Going to be around/ or have any time .... i wouldn't recommend getting a parrot.

    you could teach

    *him tricks

    *to speak

    Un-endless possibilities =]

    Have fun

  4. Hi there: I have a African Grey that is 6 years old. He has never feather plucked and I keep him busy with many toys hanging from his cage and foot toys and a varitey of foods to forge for.  I leave a radio on in his room and I give him lots of attention. Not to much though as you do not want him or her to depend on only you for entertainment. When you cannot be in same room as bird let him or her know you are there by talking or whistling back and forth. Good luck they are great birds. :)

  5. I got an African Gray last year, she's a cutie about 4-5 years old, and since 3 months she is usually at home by herself while I am at work from 9-6. I was/am afraid that she'll pluck too but till now she doesn't see to be too bored, except that I can hear her whistling and calling my name from 5 stories down while I am on the street but this go's on about 10 minutes according to the neighbours.

Every other day I also leave a nature sound/music on, and some days I have a recording of my own voice calling her name and saying what I usually say to her which plays until the battery runs out. Now I am not sure if this pisses her off, since it repeats every 15 minutes but at least when I get back home she repeats what was on the recording which is pretty hilarious and awesome.

they are really smart creatures but they need love and care..
