I am a student of Sociology & currently doing a project on the two warrior class of the subcontinent - "RAJPUTS" & "PATHANS".....

But I have encountered a problem when I came to know that there are some people called "rajput pathan", though I know that muslim rajputs exist, I can't find any information about the community called "rajput pathan"...

Are muslim rajputs & rajput pathans same people or are they two distinct communities ?

Please give me as much information as possible on "rajput pathans".

PLEASE NOTE - I WANT SERIOUS & AUTHENTIC ANSWERS BECAUSE THIS IS A PROJECT WORK...

  2. There is no such thing as Rajput Pathans, some body has clearly misled you on this issue. They are two completely different entities from two very starkly different regions and cultures.

It is true many Rajput clans intermarried with Muslim dynasties, for money or a real change in belief. This was eloquently recorded by Jawaharlal Nehru Sahib in his book, ''The Discovery of India''. I suggest you read it.

It is a sad state, to see many extremists come on sites and purport lies and distortions when they are not yet (sadly) come to terms that Islam is very much home in India and Pakistan. Many opoositionists see this as a sacrilige against their own faith that people may leave and join another.

I list some sources which mention this conversion and also discuss it too.

Dont be put off, and pursue your research, well done for asking and I hope I helped in some way :-)

  3. Before the invasion of India by the muslims, There were only a majority of Hindus and may be some christians in the far south and some parsees around Bombay or elsewhere.

When conversion of Hindus to muslims by bribery and force occurred, then anything is possible. That is why among the muslims there are many family names that are of Hindu origin. Among the women it is only the story of Padmini of Chittore who sacrificed her life with hundreds of others to save her honour. Among the Rajput warriors many may have gladly embraced Islam for want of money and other worldly pleasures. They have been known to give away their daughters to marry muslims to save their own skin or position, which may have been ultimately shortlived anyway.

This is all recorded in history - whosoever wrote it.

Many of the culture, traditions, arts, crafts, educational skills etc. were carried forward by the invaders and later on cailmed to be their own. However majority of muslims of the yester years were nomads and settled civilizations in that part of the world were few and far between.

The following web pages shed some light on history of India and its muslim invasion.

  4. In south India, Muslims and Rajputs settled in Bangalore or Mysore speak the same language & the north Indians call the muslims as Rajput muslims. (Deccani).

Among these muslims there are pathans, sheikhs, sayeds, Saits, Baigs,Shareefs  etc. But they intermingle easily. There are arranged marriages between them.

I am not sure but the baigs could be Rajpath Muslims pathans. Baigs are fromTurkey who were in military, and usually given the tittle  "Khan". Mirza Ghalib was one of those.(urdu poet).
